How to bypass a proxy server on a local network?

Content filtering and proxy servers are a way of life in schools, colleges and offices. System administrators often install them between your endpoint and the Internet to monitor web traffic and block unwanted websites. However, they sometimes constitute a bottleneck for productivity. Therefore, we will discuss some of the proxy bypass methods currently available on the local network.

Method 1: bypass via browsers

When everything else seems correct, the only thing you have to do is turn off the proxys in your web browsers. In Firefox, go to “Options -> Advanced -> Connection parameters”. Do not activate any proxy access, update your browser and surf the websites.

Chrome users should visit “Parameters -> Advanced -> System”. Here, click on “Open the parameters of the proxy”.

A new “Internet Properties” window will open. Click on “LAN Settings” and uncheck everything in the second window. Refresh the Chrome browser and browse the website.

Method 2: Trace in command line

If the above method did not work for you, it means that the URLs have been blocked. In such cases, you can try to access the website via its IP address. Go to the command line, type plot and press Enter. Soon, the website will return its IP address. Enter the IP address in the address bar to access the website.

In some administration settings, you may not be able to access the command file. In such a case, simply execute cmd as a batch file. Open the Notepad, type the words cmd and save it under the name “chabd.bat” in “All files”. This should now be done as a command file.

Method 3: VPN Chrome extensions

Another method for bypassing parameters for Chrome users is to use VPN extensions. Free VPN is one of the reliable extensions that works well. You can choose from hundreds of extensions and not have to worry about slow speeds and bandwidth problems.

Method 4: New proxys

Network administrators are used to blocking external proxys. However, this is where “new proxys” are really useful. You can do a simple Google search for them. Personally, I find “” very useful for discovering new proxy servers. Just look for a reliable proxy and write down its IP address and port number.

Return to local network settings, except that this time you must check the “use a proxy server for your local area network” box. Then insert the values into the required fields and start accessing the website.

Method 5: Use Tor

Tor Navigator is one of the best ways to get around proxy restrictions. Available free of charge, you can surf anonymously and not leave any trace revealing your navigation activities. Tor browsers are also free of malware, but you may want to hide it somewhere if it is on a shared computer.

Piracy methods

Although these methods are not considered to be proxy workouts, they are very useful in helping you access what you want.

  • Use Google Translate: Go to Google Translation and convert the website to another language. Once done, all you have to do is see “the original”. This way you can read the content in English under a new URL. You can also use Microsoft’s Bing translation service.
  • Use the HTML converter in PDF: If all you have to do is download the web content, just visit Sodapdf, and convert the web page to a PDF file

From my own personal experience, knowing how to get around proxy restrictions is a good thing. In some cases, you may really need to surf these blocked websites or download something important. However, always check local security policies before trying to bypass proxy servers on a local network.

Choose the above proxy methods that suit you best and let us know if any of them fail you.
